jalarse
Short answer
In Lima, "jalarse" means to fail a course or exam. The register is coloquial — fine among friends, out of place in a job interview or anything written to an institution. The standard Spanish equivalent is "suspender, reprobar". In use: Me jalé el examen de estadística.

Essential for any student. Note the reflexive: me jalé is I failed, while me jalaron points the blame at the examiner — a distinction Peruvians make deliberately.
